Therapeutic Approach

As a therapist I work with many models (treatments) of therapy that are evidence and/or research based.

CLIENT CENTERED THERAPY

Focus: change occurring by creating conditions for the client to grow. Examples of this are: congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)

Focus: learning to modify unhelpful thought patterns to improve the relationship between thoughts and feelings

 

GOTTMAN COUPLES THERAPY

Focus: disarming conflicting verbal communication; increasing intimacy, respect, and affection; removing barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and creating a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship

SOLUTION FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY (SFBT)

Focus: assessing strengths and resources to find solutions to a problem

MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING (MI)

Focus: prioritizing a person's motivation for change through a person-centered counseling style that draws out a person's intrinsic motivation for change; emphasizes autonomy, strengths, and a person's ideas about making positive change, while acknowledging conflicting feelings and challenges that come with change.

 

NARRATIVE THERAPY

Focus: separating the person from the problem and creating a new narrative to focus on competencies and strengths.
